(1) The benchmark for health
enhancement content standard 1 for a student at the end of grade 8 is the
ability to:
(a) explain the relationship between positive
health behaviors and the prevention of injury, illness, disease, and premature
death;
(b) explain the function and maintenance of body
systems, including the reproductive system;
(c) analyze how peers, family, heredity, and
environment influence personal health;
(d) explain personal health enhancing strategies
that encompass substance abuse, nutrition, exercise, sexual activity,
injury/disease prevention, including HIV/AIDS prevention, and stress
management; and
(e) explain how appropriate health care can
prevent premature death and disability.
