(1) With the approval of the owner, the department may extend the inspection interval to 18 months for elevators that have no outstanding violations or operational problems in order to provide for more efficient scheduling of inspections. The department will issue a provisional certificate of inspection to the owner to cover the period of extension.

(2) Inspection intervals will not be extended so that an elevator is not inspected during any given year.
